    Boiled rice

For budgies and other bird species, boiled rice is a tasteful and easy to digest source of protein. Of course the rice should never be salted, because salt could cause serious damage to a bird's kidneys.

The next time you boil some rice just leave out the salt. You can salt your own meal when it's on your plate. Boiled without salt, you can give small quantities of rice to your pet birds.
It is important to wash to cooked rice before serving so that the grains would not stick together too strongly. Most pet birds usually don't like sticky food, but once they are used to boiled rice, they will love it.
Rice should always be served as an additional food. Never give boiled rice to breeding pet birds. Otherwise the parents will gorge their chicks on the rice grains that regrettably contain few vitamins and minerals. Consequently, the chicks will starve or suffer from a lack of nutrients. That's a risk no responsible bird owner should take.
